Belgium: WW2 Resistance Medal for the Clandestine 
Press with Rosette (Commander's Class). 
Rare unofficial WW2 Belgian medal awarded to 
leading members of the underground Resistance 
press networks who wrote, printed, and distributed 
clandestine newspapers during German occupation. 
Established in the early 1950s (probably in 1953) by 
the National Union of Clandestine Press, this scarce 
Commander’s Class example with rosette honors 
individuals who played key leadership roles in the 
resistance information struggle.
The secret press emerged in Belgium right after the 
Belgian capitulation, and by October 1940 at least 8 
newspapers had appeared. 
By the liberation of the country at least 675 
publications are known as actively distributed while 
1650 Belgians were executed  by the Germans as 
associated with the publication of "illegal" press.
