France WW1 Merchant Navy Medal 1st Type in Silver by the Paris Mint Named to M. Baumard 1918

FRANCE: Rare and historically significant French 
WW1 Merchant Navy Medal, first version (the rarest 
of three known types), awarded/attributed in 1918 
to Mr. BAUMARD M. for 25 years of service.
This early silver medal is signed by Ch. Marey, 
hallmarked ARGENT for silver, and maker marked 
by the Paris Mint on the rim. 
The medal represents a prestigious maritime 
honor and was instituted in 1901.
