FINLAND: Commemorative Medal of the War of 
Liberation, 1918. 
Early example of the medal, in blackened iron, 
maker marked by Lindman & Tillander. 
Instituted in 1918, by the Finnish Senate, to 
commemorate Finland’s independence from 
Russia after the Bolshevik Revolution. 
The first examples, like the medal offered here, 
were made from blackened or silvered iron, 
while the later examples were made from silver. 
The Finnish War of Independence (or War of 
Liberation) is considered a part of WW1.
