Imperial Germany - Prussia: Authentic 1866 
Cross for “Loyal Combatants” (Treuen Kriegern), 
awarded to those not present at Königgrätz or 
the Army of the Main. 
Made of bronze from captured Austrian cannons. 
Instituted by King Wilhelm I after the Austro-
Prussian War victory. 
The war was fought between the German Confe-
deration under the leadership of the Austrian 
Empire and its German allies on one side (Bavaria, 
Saxony, Wurttemberg etc) and the Kingdom of 
Prussia with its German allies (Mecklenburg, 
Oldenburg, Anhalt, Brunswick, Hanseatic Cities 
etc) and Italy on the other.
The War resulted in Prussian dominance over the 
German states.
In the Italian unification process, this is called the 
Third Independence War.
A rare and historic German Civil War-era medal.
