The Centenary Medal for the Battle of Leipzig was 
issued by both Prussia and Saxony in 1913. 
The medal was a significant historical artifact, 
marking a key moment in European history and 
the beginning of the end of Napoleon's 
dominance.
The Battle of Leipzig (16-19 Oct. 1813), also known 
as the Battle of the Nations, was the largest battle 
fought in Europe prior to WW1. 
The Coalition armies of Austria, Prussia, Sweden 
and Russia, led by Tsar Alexander I and Karl von 
Schwarzenberg, decisively defeated the Grande 
Armee of French Emperor Napoleon I. 
The battle, part of the Napoleonic Wars, was the 
culmination of the German Campaign of 1813 
and involved 560.000 soldiers and 2.200 artillery 
guns. Casualties on both sides reached 133.000 
men.
