The Explorers advancement program was 
introduced by the BSA in 1949, with four ranks: 
Apprentice, Bronze, Gold and Silver.
This is the 1st type of the award that remain in 
use during the period 1948 1954 when the Air 
Scouts joined the same advancement system 
and the 2nd type of the award was introduced.
The award is rare, especially in miniature, as 
it remained in use for just 6 years - practically 
for only 3 (1950-1953).
